As with all diseases, an accurate diagnosis before beginning treatment is needed. Depression may have one or many root causes. If you have no social impairment or problems with your self-image, you probably suffer from a physically caused depression.

Physical causes of depression may be pain, fatigue, normal grief, vitamin deficiencies, viruses, arthritis, a physical brain disorder, side effects from drugs, cancer, and glandular abnormalities.
